What do you mean by "high-functioning special needs kids"?
It is such a subjective term, we know.
In order for our classes to be effective for all of the children enrolled, we ask that you think about who your child is. Are they verbal or non-verbal? Do they have interests outside of, say, independent play (i.e. video games)? Do they WANT to take a class? Do they have a desire to make friends and maintain the relationships they already have? If your child can express themselves, can separate from you easily, and is interested in the class, then we look forward to having fun with them!
What if my child is not "special Needs"?
At Step Right Up, our goal is to help all kids. Although our Improv for Social Skills classes are designed for help kids who may need help in reading social cues and behaviors, most of our other classes are open to any child who would benefit from our more relaxed, less pressured environment with a smaller ratio of teachers to students, and in a smaller setting.
Who are your instructors?
Our instructors are a balance of professionals from the arts community and educators, speech therapists and occupational therapists. To find out more about our instructors, click here.
What is the ratio of students to teachers?
Every class will be different.
For Improv, there will always be at least 2 instructors and at least 1 assistant.
For most of our other classes, there will be one instructor and at least 1 assistant.
If you feel your child may need more support, we are open to aides or shadows working with your child, if necessary.
